Votaw Sons

James Votaw began performing residential installations in 1968 with a used truck, a small office in his garage and part-time help from his wife (Peggy) and three sons (Dan, Mike and Tom). Since that time, Votaw Electric has expanded steadily to provide a complete range of electrical contracting services to industrial, commercial, healthcare, government, financial and educational customers.

Today, Votaw employs over 120 employees and credits its growth to the working class background and close connection with customers, which have carried over from its simple origin. Consistent workmanship and productivity combined with a reputation for flexibility and cooperation have enabled Votaw Electric to play a contributing role, and become a preferred team members of many challenging projects.

First Shop Purchased

Jim Votaw purchased the first shop on Stellhorn Road.

1978
Controls & Power Quality

Emphasis on controls and power quality was added to provide specialized services in response to customer requirements. These services include custom control systems, PLC programming, power monitoring; disturbance analysis. Votaw Electric has kept pace with converging technology.

1988
Votaw builds a new shop

As Votaw Electric grows, more space is needed for materials and employees.

1997
Telecom Division Begins

With adding Telecommunications to our services, a conscious decision was made to view electrical contracting, controls, power quality and telecommunications as integrated solutions rather than divisions of the company.

1998
Votaw Electric Adopts Lean Construction

Votaw Electric practices and is continually looking for ways to improve our service to our diversified customer base.

2006
Votaw becomes an ESOP

In 2010, Votaw becomes 40% ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). They begin the process toward 100% employee owned.

Votaw 100% Employee Owned

To continue the legacy of Votaw Electric, the Votaw brothers provided ownership to the employees through an ESOP (employee stock ownership plan). We take ownership in the business.
