Votaw Electric applies lean construction to their business.

On January 18, 2007, Votaw Electric introduces Lean Construction to their employees with a two-day seminar.  After several years of researching, Dan Votaw determined it was time to get on board with lean construction.  However, he felt it was important for all employees to understand the Lean Construction concept; and therefore, provided a two-day seminar to educate all employees on Lean Construction.

The first portion of the seminar was explaining the history and fundamentals of Lean Construction.  Then, the employees jumped right in to find ways to eliminate waste by applying to one of their most common electrical procedures; pulling wire.  Once the employees started brainstorming on ways to eliminate waste in wire pulling, they found it much easier to understand the purpose and the added value lean construction brings to Votaw Electric and their customers.

Dan Votaw wanted the first improvement to be a visual for all employees, and he chose the tool room.  A team was put together and below is a before and after of just one example of eliminating waste by finding things easier in the tool room.
